Day 34: London, England
A crazy meal
St. John Restaurant is ranked in the top 40 in the world and recommended by John Payne, so of course we had to go and check it out. It’s actually not crazy expensive, just a little crazy on the food side of things. Think strange meats. Our appetizers were not too weird, but consisted of Razor Clams (long thin clam things), Fois Gras (of course), Bone Marrow (sooo good—it’s just like eating juicy fat), and a spinach and tomato salad.
Then came the wierdo stuff. They were out of the Suckling Pig that you’re supposed to order a week before, so our waitress recommended these. First up was the Blood Cake (yes it’s made of blood), I’d had similar before in Scotland where it’s a standard part of the traditional breakfast. Chris and I liked it but Phil was skeptical. We also had the Lamb Tongue which just tasted like lamb and even had a similar texture to lamb, so not so impressive. And then the Veal Chop which was decidedly just a veal chop with not much special going for it. So all in all, the appetisers were great but we were disappointed in the mains.
They do have a great logo though so Phil and to buy a t-shirt. Expect it to appear in some future photos.
