Day 8: Central Montana

Driving across “Big Sky” country

We headed south from Glacier National Park in search of warmer weather, towards Yellowstone. Glacier N.P. is part of the Rocky Mountain Range and it was a stunning drive around the south end of the park through the mountains. The most amazing and surprising part of the trip was leaving the mountains to a view of flat, rolling, unending Big Sky country. That’s the nickname for it and is well deserved. In all directions we could see the rolling hills and the sky meet at the horizon at a distance difficult to contemplate. The scenery for our 6 hour drive was stunning.

It got late in the day so we stopped at Livingston, where all the rich Hollywood people have bought ranches, and turned an old cowboy town into a trendy vacation destination. We chose to stay at a cheap chain motel instead.
